Although the ability to create a drop shadow in Canva has been around for a few months. You might not have known about this feature. Luckily, I’m here to serve you some helpful Canva tutorials to increase your design productivity.
The drop shadow effect can be rather versatile, it allows your products, profile shots, and freebie designs to look more realistic and stand out from the rest of your design. This is now totally achievable in the Canva editor. This nifty feature is available for both Canva free and pro users.
How to get started with Canva Pro

Start with a brand new design
On the homepage of Canva you will find the ‘Create a design’ button. You can either create a new post or select an existing graphic.
Add or upload your image
Next, you want to select your desired image or upload a new image on ‘Uploads’
Not sure what items are best to use the shadow effect for?:

- Use them with scene creators and tech mockups (like laptop and phone mockups)
- Profile Images for your social media accounts and so much more…
Find the Shadows Effect
Select ‘Edit Image’, you want to make sure you select the image first for this to display. Then find ‘Shadows’ – you might need to scroll a bit if you’re trying this for the first time.
Select ‘See all’ this will open up even more shadow options that you can choose from.
Customize your drop shadow
You will notice that Canva currently has a few shadow options for you to customize the look of your drop shadow effect. Choose from the options for the one you’re looking for.
You can take it a step further and use additional customizations like changing the colour or direction of your shadow. Play around with the options Canva provides.
A quick tip: If you are creating a mockup of digital products like an ebook. Canva Pro users can simply make remove the background tool or if you have a free account using a third party website to do this.
